STUDENTS from a Huddersfield school are supporting the sick and needy during a pilgrimage in July.

Twenty-five year 10 students from All Saints Catholic College at Bradley Bar are taking part in the event.

It is the 19th year that students from All Saints have attended the French town at the foot of the Pyrenees which is the most important international centre of modern Christian pilgrimage.

This follows a series of visions by a girl called Bernadette of Mary the mother of Jesus between February 11th and July 16th 1858.

There were eighteen appearances in all.

Since then thousands of sick and needy people have flocked to the shrine each year for cures and comfort.

Pupils from All Saints will be joining the party from the Leeds Diocese.

Party leader Lorraine Geaney said: “This will be the 19th year that pupils from All Saints have attended Lourdes.

“Although it will be an enjoyable experience, it is not the usual type of school trip and students will be working hard supporting the elderly and infirm in wheelchairs from 7am to late into the evening.”

Students have organised a promise auction this Friday to raise funds to help towards travel costs for the pilgrimage.

The trip runs between July 3 and July 10.

The promise auction includes theatre tickets, meals at local restaurants, paintballing sessions, pictures and gardening promises to name just a few.

Viewing for the event starts at 6.30pm at the school with the auction starting at 7pm. All are welcome to support the event and further donations are also welcome.

Anyone who can help should contact Mrs Geaney at the school on 01484 426466.
