SALENDINE Nook High School abandoned lessons for a day and held its own version of the Olympics.

The 1,300 pupils divided into teams representing 40 countries for a recent Olympic Immersion Day.

The teams were made up of pupils of varying ages and each country had to present a unique bid to persuade the judges why they should host the Olympics.

The pupils were assisted by 10 business leaders from Sainsbury’s, one of the school’s partners, who were on hand to give advice.

Teacher Rob Morris, one of the organisers of the day, said: “It was absolutely fantastic, there was a lot of positive feedback from students and staff and a lot of creative thinking.

“It was good to see the older kids mixing with the younger ones.

“The students have learned more about what it takes for the country to host the Olympics and it has got everybody warmed up for the event.”
