CROSLAND Moor rider Sue Chadwick (pictured) is taking part in this year's Burghley Horse Trials.

She was at the Stamford, Lincolnshire, event today for the first of four days of competition.

She is competing on her horse R J Maxi.

The prestigious event features 600 shops and food stalls.

Among the attractions are gypsy caravans for children, and, of course, top riders and horses from all over the world.

Riders from 10 countries will be represented, including Britain's William Fox-Pitt and Pippa Funnell, who won the cross-country course in 2002 and 2003, along with the 2004 winner, Australia's Andrew Hoy.

Prize money has been increased to a £40,000 first prize for the first time this year, due to a new three-year sponsorship deal with four-wheel drive vehicle makers Land Rover.

Sue, the sister of former British Superbike champion James Whitham, has been riding for nearly 40 years and competing for 20.

She also teaches at local pony and riding clubs.
