BENEVOLENT builders have come to the aid of a troubled toddler after reading about his plight in the Examiner.

Father and son team Alan and Lee Brown, who run Crosland Moor building company LA Builders, fitted a new bathroom suite for three-year-old Bailey Earnshaw – for free.

Their help came after the Examiner reported last month how the toddler’s mum, Kelly, had been pleading with Kirklees Council for help.

She wanted a bath for their home in Glenside Road, Slaithwaite, because of Bailey’s numerous problems.

He has to wear a helmet because he has epilepsy and also has learning and behavioural difficulties.

Miss Earnshaw, 35, said that forcing Bailey to use their shower put him in danger because he was at risk of smashing the glass if he had a seizure.

He could also scald himself because he did not understand he should not adjust the water temperature.

Miss Earnshaw said the council had ignored her requests for more than three years and added that officials had told her they would not fit a bath because Bailey could walk.

But Alan and Lee stepped in to save the day after reading about the Earnshaws’ predicament.

Alan said: “When I saw the story in the paper I was absolutely disgusted the council had refused to help.

“I thought I had to do something. It was the picture of the little lad with his helmet on that really got to me.

“We spoke to our suppliers and they were delighted to help.

“It took a couple of days – a bit longer than we thought – but we were more than happy to do it.’’

They fitted a new bath, supplied for free by Atlas Heating of Lockwood, toilet and wash basin.

Miss Earnshaw, who was on holiday with Bailey when Alan and Lee carried the work out, said: “When I heard that someone wanted to do it for free I was absolutely gobsmacked because I thought you don’t get anything for nothing these days.

“At first my pride told me to say no. But then I thought that I had to do it for Bailey.

“He’s absolutely thrilled with it. As soon as we get home from anywhere he wants to have a bath.

“I can’t thank them enough.”
