Craft beer fans can watch a US-style brewhouse take shape at the new Summer Wine taproom while they enjoy a pint at source.

The brewery, based in Crossley Mills, Honley, is installing a state-of-the-art, US-built brewhouse and packaging line after moving to a new 7000sq ft unit at the site.

Over the next 12-18 months, visitors will be able to watch the equipment being installed through the taproom’s viewing windows.

Then, once the brewhouse project is complete, customers can watch the brewery in action and take a tour of the plant.

The open plan layout allows drinkers to enjoy Summer Wine’s beers just metres away from where they are brewed.

Summer Wine’s Andy Baker said the tasting room, called ‘The Tap’, would feature street food vendors on Saturdays in the near future.

He said: “The Tap has been built with many reclaimed materials to try and be sympathetic to the Victorian past of the site with a rustic and industrial charm yet comfortable feel.

“It currently has 12 beer lines showcasing two of our cask range and a good selection of our keg beers including old favorites such as Pacer Session IPA, Mokko Milk Stout, Sucker Punch Pale Ale as well as our ever present range of specials and experimental beers such as The Juice Facilitator and Sorachi Samurai IPA.

“We vary the styles from light to dark, IPA to Stout to cater for most drinkers tastes.”

The Tap, based in Unit 2 at Crossley Mills, also serves soft drinks, wine and snacks.

It is open Fridays 5pm-10,30pm, Saturdays noon-10.30pm and Sunday noon-9pm.

Summer Wine Brewery was formed in 2008 by directors James Farran, Andy Baker and Meyrick Kirk.

It aims to create ‘avante garde beers’ to put Yorkshire on the map and calls itself ‘the home of evolutionary craft beer from Yorkshire’.
