FIRFIGHTERS had to deal with six grass fires in under three hours last night.
Between 8pm and 11pm Huddersfield crews attended incidents in Upper Brow Road in Paddock, Bradley Gate Farm in Sheepridge, Beaumont Park, Halifax Old Road in Fartown, Coniston Avenue in Moldgreen and Kilner Bank behind the Odean cinema near Bradley Mills.
The fires took hold on the hottest day of the year so far, as temperatures topped 20ºC.
Watch manager Chris Bell said some may have been caused by discarded cigarettes, but others were started deliberately.
He added: “We would ask the public to consider that it takes a massive amount of resources to deal with all these incidents, it can have a big impact on the environment and it can be dangerous.”
