THE sun gleams at the top of the war memorial in Greenhead Park on a crisp winter’s day.

This evocative image was taken by Lynne Buckingham from Paddock while out for a stroll through the park with husband John Bostock.

Lynne is head of English at Brooksbank School in Elland.

John is now retired and used to work at David Brown’s engineering works.

The couple have one son, 19-year-old Joshua, who is studying cell biology at Manchester University.

Lynne said: “It was a beautiful day in the park and the sun was glinting on the cross.’’

The war memorial and the arc belvedere structure around it were opened in 1927 and a service is held there on every Remembrance Day.

Improvement work is being done on it as part of the ongoing £5.4m revamp of the Grade II-listed Victorian park which is due to finish early this year.
