HUDDERSFIELD Town have made a key transfer window signing – Timmy the Terrier.
The five-year-old Yorkshire Terrier has been snapped up by the Galpharm club to perform at half time.
His signing brings competition for places with current mascot Terry the Terrier.
The football-mad dog is co-owned by Huddersfield DJ Martin Doorly and his ex-girlfriend Nicola Crossley.
Martin – who founded the town’s famous Afterparty nights and now DJs around the world – said his skilful pooch had always had a natural talent with a ball but he had also taught him a load of tricks.
He said: “We used to take him up to the moors and we quickly found he was really good.
“He’s got really good ball control.
“You can kick it up in the air and he can bring it down with one touch.
“He likes to dribble it around and if you get in goal he tries to take it round you.”
Dedicated Town fan Nicola, 24, said she had approached the club and they had agreed to give him a trial.
She said: “Because Timmy is amazing at football and he’s a Terrier, I thought I would see if they were interested.
“They loved the idea so we’re just going to see what he can do.”
Nicola, who hails from Cowlersley, said she wasn’t worried about Timmy getting big match nerves in front of the Town faithful.
“I’ve never seen him not want to play football so I can’t really see him getting stage fright,” she said.
“I just hope he doesn’t do anything else on the pitch!”
A spokesman for Huddersfield Town said they were still confirming the deal and could not say when Timmy would be called on for his big match debut.
