A SUPPORT group has raised thousands of pounds for Kirkwood Hospice.

Members of the Kirkheaton Support Group have raised £9,000 during the past year for the Dalton-based hospice through a number of events held throughout the year.

These included fairs, a Beetle drive, curry evening, brass band concert and Midnight Memory Walk.

The hospice support group have been helped in reaching their fundraising target by the many donations they have received from local people and businesses. They presented the cheque at their Easter fair to Kate Leadbeater, community fundraiser for the hospice.

The event, held at Kirkheaton Liberal Club, included a variety of stalls, raffles, refreshments and fresh flower arranging.

Freda Trigg, Kirkheaton Support Group’s secretary thanked everyone who had helped them raise the funds.

She said: “Thanks to everyone who have given donations, large and small, and those who have attended the events – it is very much appreciated.”

Singers have raised money to help Kirkwood Hospice.

Marsh Ladies Choir held a charity concert at The North Light Gallery in Armitage Bridge in aid of the Dalton-based hospice.

The event raised £500 for the charity.

Marsh Ladies Choir chairman Fiona Wakley said: “After joining the hospice as a volunteer, I realised how much money is required to provide the wonderful care given to patients.

“This led to the choir supporting Kirkwood Hospice.”
