HUNDREDS of people have joined Castle and Minster Credit Union this year.
Membership of the Huddersfield group has surged by 25% as 1,485 people signed-up in 2011.
Director Tony Hood said: “As well as releasing low-cost loans in particular to low-income households who find it difficult to get credit from mainstream banks.
“We have also introduced our loan savers account which encourages members to save with us before accessing loans.
“We hope that this will reduce dependency on loans, in particular those taken out with door-step lenders or pay day loan agencies with extortionate interest rates and help low-income households take more control over their finances.
“We are looking forward to another good year gaining more members in local organisations and businesses, extending our loan products and offering better deals on savings.”
