PEOPLE in Huddersfield with illnesses like asthma, diabetes, back pain or heart disease are invited to take part in a research survey.
It is being carried out by the National Primary Care Research and Development Centre and Bristol, Manchester and York universities.
It will assess how well a scheme helping patients to look after themselves is working.
In the Expert Patients Programme they learn how to pass on their knowledge and advice to people with similar illnesses.
A spokeswoman for Huddersfield Central and South Huddersfield NHS primary care trusts said:
"People who live with and manage a chronic illness usually know what makes their condition better or worse and have tips for coping."
The Expert Patients course offers a chance to learn skills to support the management of symptoms. The skills include:
* Relaxation
* Better breathing
* Healthy eating
* Exercise - how to build individual levels of fitness, flexibility and strength
* How to communicate more effectively
* Dealing with anger, fear, frustration, isolation, fatigue and depression
* Using problem- solving skills in our daily lives
* Making informed choices
* How to make plans that work for individuals
* Working with healthcare professionals.
