KIRKLEES is a miserable place!
That’s according to research into residents’ happiness carried out by the British Household Panel Survey for the Royal Geographical Society.
Kirklees this week finished a depressing 242nd in a survey of 282 boroughs. The survey asked citizens about their wellbeing including questions on stress and depression.
Powys in mid-Wales was declared the happiest place in Britain, while Edinburgh was deemed the saddest.
But neighbouring Leeds fared worse at number 258.
The news may come as a surprise to Huddersfield residents after their town was judged the fifth happiest in Britain in a First Direct study in November.
Kirklees leader Clr Rob Light was equally shocked.
Clr Light said: “It’s unbelievable. These things are very light-hearted and we shouldn’t take any notice of it. We have some very nice areas and it’s not a miserable place to live. We’ve Brighouse, parts of Wakefield and Saddleworth who want to join us so it can’t be that bad.”
