DRIVERS are being warned about traffic interview surveys which will take place in Huddersfield later this month.

They could be signalled to the roadside and asked a series of questions.

Kirklees Council said the surveys were aimed at helping provide better transport solutions.

Answers given will be fed into a computer to build a picture of traffic patterns.

Questions to be asked will include:

* Where have you come from?

* Where are going?

* Are you travelling for work, pleasure or shopping?

Clr Martyn Bolt, Cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "The potential for new development in and around Huddersfield town centre over the next few years is enormous, so it is important we can predict the impact on our roads.

"Given the benefits that this could bring to our road users, I am sure everyone will be supportive and patient while the surveys are being carried out."

At some sites drivers will be handed a card with questions and are asked to return it to the council using a pre- paid envelope.
