A TOP-of-the-range car seized by police under the Proceeds of Crime Act will go on display in Dewsbury.

The black Range Rover will be in Market Place from 9am to 5pm today as part of the West Yorkshire Police Why Should They? campaign, to crack down on criminal assets.

A judge at Bradford Crown Court ruled the vehicle had been bought from the profits of criminal activity.

During the last financial year more than £5million was confiscated or forfeited from criminals in West Yorkshire and £8.6million worth of assets were seized.

Insp Jenny Thompson, of the Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The Proceeds of Crime Act gives us the powers to hit criminals where its hurts – their wallets.

“We are able to seize cash, recover cars, houses and any other assets they may have.”
