A SURVEY about cravings for Ben Shaws’ pop brought back memories for readers.

The study showed that the firm’s dandelion and burdock was still a firm favourite, decades after it was first produced.

It topped a list of favourite childhood drinks and food – while penny sweets also featured strongly in the list.

Huddersfield’s Diane Bamford said: “Memory Lane sweets for me are sherbert fruits, Rileys toffee rolls, wooden licorice sticks, Swizzles, lips, white mice, coconut mushrooms, chocolate limes and sherbert lemons.

“Regarding Ben Shaws I remember going round looking for empties to get the money back. Yellow lemonade, orange and lime were as good as dandelion and burdock”.

And reader said Pam Wilkinson said: “I only need to think of the taste and smell of Ben Shaws cream soda and I think of going to the Albany Hall on Saturdays roller skating”.
