SLAITHWAITE couple Ellen and Kenneth Radcliffe are celebrating 60 years of marriage.

The pair were married at Christchurch Woodhouse on January 29, 1949.

They were both brought up in Birkby and met through mutual friends when they were teenagers.

Kenneth, 83, was a Bevan Boy during the Second World War, working in pits around Flockton. He went on to own Radcliffe Shoe Repairs in Crosland Moor. Ellen, 82, worked in a laundry in Dalton before she was married.

The couple have two children, Gerald, 58, and Linda, 55. They also have two grandchildren, Tim, 32, and Pippa, 30.

Ellen and Kenneth will celebrate their anniversary by going for a meal with family.

Son-in-law Neil Ashton said: “They are a wonderful couple, full of life and energy. Kenneth is a bit of a character who can talk for Britain.”
