A HUDDERSFIELD swimming teacher who has taught thousands of children to swim is splashing out into retirement.
George Worthington, 72, who lives in Newsome, has worked on the poolside for almost 30 years.
He was presented with an award to mark his outstanding service after teaching his last lesson.
Huddersfield Sports Centre receptionist Amanda Weavill was taught by George when she was a young swimmer.
She said: "He was a very good teacher, always very patient but also lots of fun. We will all miss him as he has been teaching here for years."
Although George is retiring from teaching at Huddersfield Sports Centre, he will continue to take lessons at Colne Valley Leisure Centre in Slaithwaite until June.
