Sylvia Thomas elected as first female president of Yorkshire Archaeological Society

YORKSHIRE Archaeological Society has elected its first female president in its 147-year history. Sylvia Thomas was welcomed as president at the annual general meeting on June 26. The society was founded in 1863 as the Huddersfield Archaeological and Topographical Association to promote interest in the history and archaeology of the Huddersfield area. In 1870 it expanded its scope to cover the whole of Yorkshire.
