A Huddersfield band has won through to the national final of a prestigious awards.

Shelley’s Rock My Reception at first beat more than 1,000 entrants to clinch a place in the regional final of the Wedding Industry Awards in Richmond, North Yorkshire.

And they are now in with a chance of being crowned national winner in the best musical act category after being picked for the grand finals which will be on January 15 in London.

Kieran Stokes and Dominic Beresford, who met at school at the age of nine, wooed judges with their repertoire, which includes being able to play the entire Beatles back catalogue.

It is the latest accolade for the talented duo who previously won the 2014 award in the Wedding Industry Awards for best newcomer at the start of the year.

Kieran, said: “To win best newcomer last January was a fantastic experience and really helped raise our business to the next level.

“We never expected to get through to the 2015 final so we’re delighted.”

Meanwhile, the founder of The Wedding Industry Awards, Damian Bailey said: “This our fourth awards and the standard of entrants was higher than ever, making it harder for our judges to pick winners from such amazing shortlists where everyone demonstrates such skill.

“With the UK wedding industry being worth an estimated £10 billion annually, it’s no surprise that wedding suppliers are working hard to stand out in a crowded marketplace. Happily, for Rock My Reception, they’ve now got a coveted award to help them woo clients in 2015.”

Fenay Bridge’s Pure Bliss Mobile Beauty and The Sugar Velvet Cake Company based in Huddersfield town centre both also got through to the regional final in Richmond.
