A TEENAGER who died in a car crash in Holywell Green has been named as David Nicholson.

The 19-year-old from Ovenden, Halifax, was killed when his silver Peugeot 106 flipped onto its side on Stainland Road at 3am on Sunday morning.

He was described as a talented rugby player for Ovenden ARLFC and played up to the under 18 level.

On Sunday morning his car mounted the nearside kerb and hit a low wall, coming to rest on top of a wall, trapping the driver inside.

His passenger, aged 18, was left with non-life threatening injuries and was treated at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Although there is no suggestion speed was a factor in the incident, the tragedy has prompted calls for speed cameras at the accident blackspot.

The stretch of road, from West Vale to Outlane, was described as ‘dangerous’ by local councillor Peter Wardhaugh.

He wants further safety measures in a bid to prevent further tragedy.

West Yorkshire Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to contact them.

Officers want to hear from anyone who saw the vehicle immediately before the incident.
