HUNDREDS of dancers are preparing to be put through their paces in aid of a good cause.

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is set to host its annual Roy's Relay Tapathon at Halifax's North Bridge Leisure Centre.

The event, now in its eighth year, takes place on Sunday, January 18. It will see 400 dancers from 18 dancing schools try to keep tapping non-stop between 10am and 4pm.

Their aim is to raise cash for the fight against lung cancer.

To date, the event has raised £70,000 for the Liverpool-based Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

The foundation helps to fight the disease, which kills 40,000 people every year in the UK.

The Scholes-born star died of lung cancer after years of work in smoke-filled clubs and bars.

Schools taking part in this year's event include the Janet Austin Tappers, of Brighouse, The Pam Strickland Tappers, from Huddersfield, the Huddersfield School of Theatre Dance and the Bernadette Hays School of Theatre Dance, from Marsden.

Last year's event raised more than £11,500.
