A TAXI driver was beaten up in Birkby.

He was attacked by one of four men he had picked up in Croft Gardens.

Now police are hunting the gang and have appealed for witnesses.

The driver was assaulted on Norwood Road in Birkby on August 14.

At 2am the 37-year-old driver had picked up a fare from Croft Gardens and the four male passengers told him they wanted to go to Dalton.

As the journey began, the  front seat passenger became aggressive towards the taxi driver and punched  him before he and the remaining three passengers got out of the taxi on Norwood Road.

The rear window of the  taxi was also smashed as the suspects ran away,  leaving the taxi driver with minor injuries.

The suspect who assaulted the driver was described as a black or Asian man in his 20s.
