A taxi driver has appeared in court accused of a sexually assaulting his young passenger.

Shahzad Yousaf, of Moorbottom Road in Thornton Lodge, was before Kirklees Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The 43-year-old entered no plea to the charge of sexual assault.

The alleged attack on his 18-year-old female passenger happened on January 3.

The court heard that the teenager asked Yousaf to drive her to an address in Meltham following a night out and sat in the front passenger seat.

Bill Astin, prosecuting, said that as the girl tried to exit the car Yousaf grabbed her and kissed her cheek and neck.

District Judge Michael Fanning committed Yousaf’s case to Leeds Crown Court.

He will first appear there on May 12.

In the meantime Yousaf is banned from contacting the complainant.

He is also barred from working as a taxi driver and his licence has been suspended.
