A TAXI driver was robbed by four passengers he picked up from Huddersfield town centre.

The thieves got into his car in the Beast Market at around 1am yesterday and asked the driver to take them to Harp Inge in Dalton, but when they got there they directed him to nearby North Carr and he took them there.

A back seat passenger then grabbed the 50-year-old driver around his neck and ordered him to hand over money.

The thieves stole cash and fled.

Det Con Russ Conlon, of Kirklees CID intelligence unit, said: “We have a good description of one of the robbers and hope someone will be able to name him. If you think you know who he is, give us a call.’’

He is a mixed race African-Caribbean man aged between 20 and 22, 5ft 7ins and heavily built with a fat face, light brown skin with very short dark hair. He wore sunglasses with dark round lenses and a light grey hooded top.

One of his accomplices is also a mixed race African-Caribbean man aged between 18 and 20, 5ft 8ins and skinny and he wore a hooded top.

The other two are both slim African-Caribbean teenagers aged 16 or 17. One wore a waist-length blue jacket.
