A TAXI driver was robbed by a couple - one of them in traditional Asian dress.

The victim picked the pair up in Keighley town centre at 11.40pm last night and they asked to be taken to Bradford and then on to Huddersfield.

After briefly stopping in Bradford the victim was directed to drive them to the Bradley area of Huddersfield and told him to stop when they reached Copthorne Square.

The couple got out and walked around the back of a shop, but the man then returned, got into the passenger seat and threatened the driver with a knife.

He demanded cash and the terrified victim handed over his takings. They couple then fled and the victim drove away. Both are Asian.

The woman is aged 20 to 25, only about 5ft tall with shoulderlength black hair and she wore an Asian-style black dress.

The man is aged 28 to 30, 5ft 5ins and slim with short black hair and he wore a black jacket and jeans.

He spoke both English and Urdu.

Det Con Russ Conlon, of Kirklees CID intelligence unit, said: "The couple were in the car for a long time before the robbery was committed. We need to speak to anyone who knows who they are."
