THERE are new plans for a taxi booking office in Brighouse, where Calderdale Council wants to ban taxis from free parking bays.

Mr Gahfoor of Ghaf’s Private Hire wants to extend his licence for a private hire office at Bethel Street.

The planning application to the council is for a booking office above a tobacconist shop.

It also includes parking facilities for six cars, which would be situated under the railway arches at Bridge End – around 300m away.

It comes as Calderdale Council is drawing up plans to ban taxis from using the town’s free parking bays during the daytime.

Brighouse Road Safety Committee has objected to the taxi office application, saying there are already more private hire advanced booking offices in the town than in nearby Halifax.

They also raised concerns about where the taxis will park.

The applicant has temporary planning permission and the full application will be considered by the planning committee next Tuesday.

It has been recommended for approval.
