A ROCK music club for youngsters has started in Emley.

Classical guitar teacher Steve Harrop has started the club to give them a chance to play with other musicians - the club meets at the Green Dragon pub in Emley every Monday evening.

The young people are taught guitar, bass guitar and drumming skills, and they get to play songs both solo and as a group.

The young musicians have proved so popular with customers at the pub that they have been invited to perform a charity concert on Saturday. It will be held at Emley Methodist Schoolrooms and will be in aid of Emley Neighbourhood Watch and Emley Methodist Church.

Ann Bedford, fundraising treasurer of the Neighbourhood Watch, said: "Everybody says a lot about the youth of today, but these kids are doing something good. Steve is giving something to these teenagers and at the concert they will be giving something to a much older age group. It's lovely."

Also performing at the concert are Shepley baritone David Hambleton and comedienne Jean Hull.
