A TEACHER at Royds Hall High School has been suspended while a police investigation is carried out.

The male teacher has been the subject of a number of allegations - said to involve an "improper relationship" with a girl pupil at the school.

Now West Yorkshire Police are carrying out inquiries.

A spokeswoman said: "We have received a complaint. Our inquiries are currently ongoing into the matter. No arrests have been made."

The matter has also been reported to Kirklees Council, the education authority responsible for the school.

Sue Lord, communications officer for Kirklees Education Service, said: "A teacher was suspended after an allegation was made and police are making their inquiries.

"Once police have concluded their inquiries all the relevant bodies will get together to decide the next stage."

It is believed the allegation involves "an inappropriate relationship" with a female pupil.

Royds Hall School, off Luck Lane at Paddock, is a high school catering for about 700 students.
