A TEACHER is preparing to take on a new challenge - in China.

Huddersfield woman Phillippa Harris is preparing to leave the UK at the beginning of February to train English language teachers.

She will be working in a teacher training college in the south west of China in a two-year placement with international development charity VSO.

Phillippa is leaving Salvatorian College in Harrow, north London, after five years of teaching modern languages.

She said: "I have been to China before and wanted to learn more. Teaching teachers will be a new challenge for me and I am hoping to gain new skills in a very different context."

VSO is an international development charity, which works through volunteers.

Using the skills and experience of volunteers it helps tackle poverty in more than 40 of the world's poorest countries.

Volunteers are aged between 21 and 75 and work overseas on a local salary.
