HUDDERSFIELD'S Catholic community is reeling from the death of a much-respected teacher.

Michael "Mick" Grimes collapsed and died last Thursday while on a walking holiday in Scotland with his wife Margaret.

It is a second tragedy for the family in little over two months.

The couple's son Stephen, 35, of Outlane, was killed in a road accident in Moorhill Road, Salendine Nook, before Christmas.

He was the rear seat passenger in a car which crashed into a lamp-post.

Mr Grimes, who was 61, had taught at All Saints Catholic High School, Bradley, for many years and had been head of year seven before retiring.

He had more recently taught maths at Huddersfield Technical College.

All Saints headteacher Mary Nixon said: "It is a blow to us all and was met with great shock by staff and former colleagues of Mick.

"He was a thoroughly decent person, always smiling and friendly and was still connected with the school.

"It is a body blow to us all and many teachers will be attending his funeral on Friday."

Mr and Mrs Grimes also have a daughter Paula and son Martin.

His funeral will be held at St Patricks' RC Church, Huddersfield, at 11.30am on Friday.
