TEACHERS ran a half- marathon and raised £1,127 after a student's father lost his battle with lymphoma at the age of 44.

Lindley mother-of-three Kath Morgan has paid tribute to the support of the staff and pupils at Salendine Nook High School.

Teachers Zoe Earnshaw and Chris Crowther took on the run on May 7.

Kath Morgan, a midwife, said her husband was diagnosed with lymphoma in December 2003.

She added: "He had two years of treatment, but unfortunately died last December 22.

"We have got three children; the eldest, Eleanor, is 13, Luke is 10 and Isobel is seven.

"Basically, when Martin passed away I did donate some money from his funeral to the unit at Leeds General Infirmary where he had all his care and we had a good rapport with the lymphoma nurse specialists."

She said the Lymphoma Association wanted to employ more of these specialists. At the moment there are only two in the country.

"They (the teachers) decided to do the Leeds half marathon to raise some money for the Lymphoma Association as a way of supporting Eleanor, which they did and they have been very supportive in that.

"I wanted to give them some credit for the run they have done because it was hard training.

"They have been really supportive to my daughter - which under the circumstances has been very helpful to me."
