TEARS were shed at a music centre’s summer concert.

Colne Valley Music Centre’s leader Denise Dransfield said many of the young musicians are leaving to go off to university, and the concert was the last time they would play music at the centre.

Mrs Dransfield said: “The event went really well – with the strings on Friday night and the wind and big band on Saturday.

“But there were quite a few tears as nine youngsters are leaving to go off to university.

“They are not all studying music – one is studying chemical engineering and the another is going to Oxford.

“But I’m sure they will carry on with their music in some form or another.

“It gives them a great social background when they get to university because they can join orchestras or bands and there is an already-formed friendship group.”
