A TEENAGER was attacked by a gang of thugs in Marsh.

The 19-year-old, from Dalton, was walking down Eldon Road when he was stopped by a gang of four launched into a motiveless attack at 9.50pm on Friday.

The victim was abused, punched and knocked to the ground where he was before curling into a ball to try to protect himself. He was then kicked and punched several times before the gang fled.

The victim suffered a fractured left wrist and a cut mouth which needed four stitches to a cut inside his mouth.

The attackers were mixed race. .

Three were aged 16 or 17 , but the gang leader is aged between 20 and 22.

He is around 6ft 2ins tall and wore a black Nike hooded top and black Adidas tracksuit bottoms with white stripes.

Det Sgt Jim Carter said: "This was an unprovoked attack involving mindless violence."
