A TEENAGER has appeared in court after hitting a pedestrian with his motorcycle.

Kyle Wilkinson, of Heathergrove Fold, Dalton, admitted driving without due care and attention.

He hit a woman as she crossed a zebra crossing near to the town’s Odeon cinema on October 5.

The 19-year-old claimed she ran out in front of him and he had been unable to avoid her.

Prosecutor Marina Hunter-Grey said police were called to the scene at Stadium Way, off Bradley Mills Road.

She said: “At 9.30pm police attended having received a report of a vehicle and pedestrian being in contact.

“There were a number of witnesses who described the motorcyclist as driving too fast.”

Magistrates were told when police arrived the woman was receiving treatment in the back of an ambulance.

Ms Hunter-Grey said: “The paramedics found the woman laid on the ground several feet away from the zebra crossing.

“The motorcycle came to a rest seven feet away from the crossing.”

In interview Wilkinson, a provisional licence holder, said that he had gone to the cash machine and just passed the junction when he hit the woman.

He said: “She ran out onto the crossing towards the cinema, I hit her and came off.”

Wilkinson claimed that he was travelling at no more than 15mph when the accident happened.

Magistrates fined the agency worker £70 and told him to pay £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge. They also endorsed his licence with six penalty points.
