YOUNG dancers from Huddersfield New College were selected to perform at a prestigious showcase.

The 13 performing arts students and members of Elan Dance Company, aged 16-19, took part in Dansopolis at Lawrence Batley Theatre.

The event, organised by Yorkshire Dance, celebrated youth and community dance across the county.

The students were among other youth or community group who created and performed an eight-minute piece.

The Elan members’ show is based on consumerism and recycling.

Dance teacher Rhiannon Dunleavy said: “The Elan Dance Company members have all worked incredibly hard over the past few weeks to create innovative, engaging and high quality dance work.

“The fact that we have been selected to be part of such a high profile celebration of dance work is a real confirmation of the enthusiasm, talent and creativity of these Huddersfield New College dance students.

“It is also fantastic that we will be given the opportunity to share the stage with such a diverse and high quality range of work.

“The performance really is a tribute to the efforts of all involved, particularly at Yorkshire Dance and the Lawrence Batley Theatre for continuing to support and promote dance in our region.”
