Police have arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a fatal collision in Huddersfield last night.

West Yorkshire Police's Major Collision Enquiry Team now want to speak to anyone who has information about the incident which took place at about 7.32pm on Fitzwilliam Street on Monday.

The collision happened after a black Toyota Aygo left the Castlegate Loop and entered Fitzwilliam Street. 

It was then in collision with a 74-year-old female pedestrian before colliding with a silver Peugeot car.

The victim, who is from Cleckheaton, was  pronounced to have passed away at the scene.

The 18-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

PC Jeremy Hepworth of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: "We are investigating this incident this morning and are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the collision or the manner in which the black Aygo was being driven just before the collision.

"An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving in connection with the incident and remains in police custody for questioning.

"Anyone who has information is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101."
