A TEENAGER has appeared in court accused of robbing a taxi driver at knifepoint.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named, was before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.

He faces charges of robbery and possession of a bladed article.

The teenager, from Batley, is jointly charged with a 17-year-old boy.

Magistrates were told that the victim works for Dewsbury-based firm Bywell Cars.

They heard that on December 27 the driver went to pick up a fare at the Jet Filling Station on Halifax Road.

The teenagers are alleged to have got into the car and demanded money with a knife.

The taxi driver escaped but some cash was taken from the vehicle, magistrates heard.

The boy was told that he will next appear at Kirklees Youth Court on January 14.

His bail conditions are residence and an electronically monitored curfew.

He was also banned from contacting the taxi driver, his co-defendant or using the taxi firm.
