TWO teenage girls were left shaken after a terrifying robbery at a Brighouse shop.

Two men raided the Superdrug store on Commercial Street at around 8.10am on Saturday morning.

The girls were bundled into a store room and tied up while the robbers raided the safe and made off with cash.

An eyewitness described the moment the terrified girls sought help in the aftermath of the robbery.

The 54-year-old Brighouse man, who does not want to be named, was going for a paper when he saw the incident unfold.

Initially he was unsure if the culprits were still in the shop as the girls walked out with their wrists bound tightly.

The man said: “One of the girls stumbled out of the shop and asked another chap if he could cut the tie from her wrist, it was so tight it looked as if it was digging into her.

“The other girl then came out and they were both very, very distressed.

“They were obviously very shaken and were crying too – they were only young girls.

“At this point we didn’t know if there was anyone in the shop or not, it could only have been minutes after.

“I assumed they must have fled but one of the girls said: “Don’t go inside he’s got a gun.”

The other witness said he saw two men in fluorescent jackets go inside as the girls were opening up – he thought they were going for a drink or something but didn’t suspect anything.

“But afterwards he said a blue Ford Focus-style car parked nearby had gone so we don’t know if they were in that.”

The shop girls were taken to a nearby hairdressers where they were comforted and interviewed by police.

Police say the men made off with a substantial amount of cash.

They are looking into the link with the blue car seen parked near to Boots.

On Saturday the shop was cordoned off by police while forensic teams examined the scene.

Detectives were also looking at CCTV footage around the town to see if the suspects had been caught on camera.

Detective Inspector Tony Nicholson said: “The two young women involved were very shaken but thankfully not physically injured during this incident.

“It was over in a matter of minutes but obviously this was a very frightening experience for the two girls.”

Police are looking for two dark skinned males who are described as well built and wearing fluorescent workmen-style tops.

Superdrug is the second business in Brighouse town centre to be targeted in the last week.

Last Tuesday the Bradford and Bingley bank was targeted by robbers armed with a machete who made off with cash.

While on Saturday police arrested a teenager for affray after an incident at Wilkinson’s, also on Commercial Street, in Brighouse.

The three incidents are not said to be linked.
