TWO teenagers took photos of themselves as they drove around in a glamorous luxury car.

But those images of Jamie Baines and Leon Knowles in the £25,000 Range Rover Vogue led to each being locked up for 16 months.

The incriminating pictures found on 19-year-old Baines phone became evidence presented to Bradford Crown Court yesterday.

They were found by police after Baines and Knowles, also 19, were arrested in connection with the vehicle which had been stolen from outside a house in Holmfirth.

The duo both denied involvement in burglary, but they admitted handling the stolen Range Rover within hours of the break-in in February.

Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday that a witness described hearing the pair bragging about driving around in the Range Rover and discussions about selling it on.

Baines own barrister Adam Birkby conceded that the teenager had been excited and perhaps seduced by the idea of driving around in a glamorous, prestige motor car.

But Mr Birkby submitted that Baines excitement was also an indication of his immaturity and the taking of photographs indicated it was not a sophisticated case of handling stolen goods.

Judge John Potter was told that both father-of-one Baines, of Oakes Avenue, Brockholes, Holmfirth, and Knowles, of no fixed abode, had previous convictions.

The Range Rover was recovered by police in the Falcon Street area of Newsome.

Baines had arrived at the scene and was arrested after a chase.

Knowles was also arrested in the early hours.

Judge Potter was shown some of the photos which showed Baines driving the Range Rover and Knowles in the front seat.

Barristers for the teenagers urged Judge Potter not to pass immediate custodial sentences, but he said the handling offence was made more serious by their record of previous convictions.

The judge pointed out that Knowles was on licence after serving a sentence for house burglary at the time of the handling and Baines was subject to a conditional discharge for harassment.

Judge Potter said it was an aggravating feature of the case that the high-value Range Rover had been stolen in a house burglary and the two defendants were involved with it a matter of hours later.
