SAFETY checks were carried out on hundreds of bus passengers.

British Transport Police yesterday installed a knife arch at Huddersfield Bus Station.

They were working with transport authority Metro as part of an anti-social behaviour crackdown.

The arch was set up at the entrance to the station and passengers had to walk through, guided by police.

A spokeswoman for the West Yorkshire Police, which were partners in the scheme, said: “We put the knife arch up between 3pm and 6pm as part of an ongoing safety operation at Huddersfield Bus Station.”
