A SWOOP on drug dealers ruining lives on a Huddersfield estate has netted 10 arrests.

Police have homed in on Sheepridge, where four people have been shot and one knifed over the last two weeks.

Four people were hurt in one incident alone on Sheepridge Road, at the junction with Belle Vue Crescent, last Thursday evening.

One man is still in hospital, where his condition is said to be improving.

Police made 10 arrests on Wednesday for suspected drug trafficking - but none are linked to the shootings.

However, police did seize one gun, suspected class A drugs and substantial amounts of cash.

Detective Inspector Andy Parr, of Kirklees CID, said: "This was an intelligence-led operation specifically aimed at disrupting drugs supply in Sheepridge.

"We are determined to improve the quality of life for people living here and have increased the number of officers in the area to reduce crime and provide reassurance.

"Drugs and drug-related crime cause fear in our communities and will not be tolerated. People have a right to feel safe and secure in their homes.

"They should not have to put up with the actions of selfish, lawless individuals.

"We want to demonstrate our commitment to local people and target the areas most affected by crime.

"While we are making some very positive inroads, we could achieve so much more with people's help.

"I'd ask local people to help direct us to where we are needed.

"Please don't hesitate in coming forward with any information you may have about those involved with drug dealing or criminal activity.

"These people should not be allowed to profit at your expense.

"All we need is a call from you and we will do the rest."
