At 10.15am the boy was walking along Grosvenor Road and was at the junction with Kingston Avenue when a man wearing a balaclava approached him and demanded his phone.

The boy bravely refused, but was punched in the stomach by the suspect who took his Blackberry Curve phone (right) and walked away with it.

The suspect was described as being black, around 5' 7" tall and of average build.

He wore a black balaclava and hooded top, black Adidas tracksuit bottoms and blue trainers.

Any witnesses are asked to contact Det Con Marie Whitehouse at Kirklees CID via 101.
