COUNCIL tenants with clear rent accounts by March 31 have a chance to win a weekend away in London with tickets to see a top show.

That's the message from Roy Ibbotson, the principal housing manager at Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing.

Tenants who are in arrears are being given an extra chance to reduce their debt and get themselves to a position where they can be considered for future prize draws.

They can do this by making a payment during the non-payment weeks of April 6 and May 30.

Mr Ibbotson added: "We want to reward tenants who pay on time - but at the same time we will take tough action against those who don't pay and this can include eviction.

"We also have a debt advice service for those people who have got into difficulty and we would ask people to speak to us before things get out of hand."

Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing took over management of the area's council houses in April 2002 and since then has reduced arrears owed by current tenants by more than £2m.
