A NEW industrial development - set to help boost jobs in Huddersfield - has welcomed its first tenants.
Work has been completed on the £7m Fieldhouse Business Park, off Leeds Road.
The site, on land formerly part of Leeds Road playing fields, was officially opened by Marino Bevilacqua, chairman of developer MB Services.
Guests included directors of the first two firms to take space at the 175,000sq ft development.
Sheet plate manufacturer MCC Technique Ltd is transferring its 20 employees to Fieldhouse Park from its premises in Milnsbridge.
Aluminium walling, doors and windows company Dortech is moving its 30-strong workforce to the site from Moldgreen.
The development provides up to 14 units ranging from 8,000sq ft to 46,000sq ft. The units can be divided up to suit the needs of occupiers.
Andy Cowling, estates manager for MB Services said it was hoped to create up to 150 jobs as tenants moved on to the site.
Joint letting agents for the development are Huddersfield-based Hanson Chartered Surveyors and Knight Frank, of Leeds.
Mike Haigh, of Knight Frank, said: "Fieldhouse Park is ideally situated on Leeds Road to attract potential clients from Leeds and Bradford as well as existing businesses in Huddersfield seeking larger or more modern premises.
"It provides a high quality setting to meet the needs of modern business."
Mr Haigh said: "The units are perfect for light industry, warehousing and trade counter operations.
"Lettings will be flexible and - like the size of the units - will be tailored to the needs of occupiers.
"Overall, this is a very significant development for Huddersfield and underlines the renaissance that this proud West Yorkshire town is now undergoing."
Mr Cowling said: "The site needed a lot of preparation. It has been used as a landfill site as well as football pitches. A new road has been built to the site to improve access."
Fieldhouse Park is one of several developments in the Leeds Road area which together are expected to generate more than 1,400 jobs.
Work is under way to turn the former Holliday Dyes and Chemicals site at Deighton into Trident Business Park.
