A SEXUAL health charity is calling on young people to help educate their friends.

Grants of up to £1,000 are being offered to Yorkshire youngsters to come up with innovative ways of teaching about sex and relationships.

HIV and Sexual Health Charity the Terrence Higgins Trust is running the scheme as part of a peer-led education project called Young Leaders.

Young people aged 13 to 19 are being invited to think of ways to build up knowledge around issues including safer sex, relationships and sexually transmitted infections.

Previous successful projects have included the Sex Ed Project at Paddock Youth Club.

Through this young people have run successful health days and lobbied their councillors about sex education in schools.

Tracey Myers, young leaders participation officer for Yorkshire, said: “All you need to do is get together with your youth club, school or college to develop your idea and make an application.”
