A 19-YEAR-OLD man was being sentenced today after he admitted putting a firework on a dead Yorkshire terrier while his friend took pictures on his mobile phone.

Steven Mark Robinson, of Linthwaite, pleaded guilty last month to committing an act of an unlawful, abusive and disgusting nature and outraging public decency.

Robinson, of Pennine Gardens, was appearing before Bradford Crown Court to be sentenced.

At the earlier hearing, the court heard Robinson carried out the "stupid prank" with friends because he was "foolish" rather than evil.

Robinson and two others came across the dead body of Emmie, an 11-year-old Yorkshire terrier, which had gone missing from Gilroyd Terrace in Linthwaite, on October 27 last year.

One of them, a 16-year- old youth, was formally reprimanded in relation to the incident. The third person involved has not been found.

A post-mortem on Emmie showed it died as a result of a road traffic collision.
