A PARTY to celebrate Examiner columnist Terry George’s home winning national accolade ended in sadness.
Terry and his civil partner, Michael Rothwell, were revealed as the winners of Channel 5 show I Own Britain’s Best Home on Thursday.
But during a party at Carr Hill Castle in Stainland that night one of the 150 guests left the gates open and the couple’s five-year-old rottweiler, Roxy, and one of its three-year-old pups, Oscar, escaped.
They were shot by a farmer nearby as neighbours helped Terry and Michael scour the area looking for them.
The two are devastated by what happened.
Carr Hall Castle – an ornamental 19th-century building – has been transformed by club owner Terry, 43, and Michael into a luxurious yet practical home.
The winning homeowners received a prize of £25,000.
