TALENTED trainees were recognised with prizes and certificates at the annual apprenticeship awards run by Huddersfield Textile Centre of Excellence.

Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman was guest speaker at the ceremony staged at the centre in Red Doles Lane and hosted by its managing director Bill Macbeth.

More than 100 awards were presented to successful candidates by textile centre chairman Paul Johnson.

Bill Skidmore, president of Huddersfield Textile Society, presented learner of the year awards to James Crosland, of Westwood Yarns in Holmfirth; Jean Johnson, of Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust; and Leanne Coid , of James Dewhurst Ltd in Altham, Lancashire.

Elland-based food manufacturer New Ivory Ltd was named Equality and Diversity Company of the Year while Westwood Yarns was named Training Company of the Year.
