PUPILS at an Almondbury school are creating an environmental garden to tie in with their specialist science college status.

King James' School attained the new status last month.

Now pupils and staff are tidying up an un-loved patch of ground featuring a pond.

It is hoped the clean-up and planting project will also get the children involved in the wider school environment. Teacher Kathryn Brook-Brown is seen at work with pupils from years nine 10 and 11.

The area will provide a space for wildlife and plants to thrive. A weather station may also be set up.

Pupils will be encouraged to take part in events such as litter clean-ups in the village
