IT is nearly upon us.
The Big Knit 2012 is here, and Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees is calling on all knitters to put their needles together and get involved.
In its ninth year, the scheme raises vital funds for local and national winter projects that help keep older people warmer in winter.
Knitters are being asked to knit little woolly hats which will adorn innocent smoothie bottles in Sainsbury’s stores from November 21.
For each be-hatted smoothie sold, innocent will give 25p to Age UKs Spread the Warmth Campaign.
Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees has been tasked with knitting 4,000 hats by September 30, 2012.
Information and Community Services Executive at Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees said: “Winter can be a really difficult time of year for many older people, so it’s really important that local knitters get behind the Big Knit to help raise funds for vital local winter projects.
“We need knitters in both Calderdale and Kirklees to help us reach our goal of 4,000 miniature hats so that we can run services like or Information and Advice and Safe and Warm Projects.
